Fat Burning Furnace vs. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle

I've lumped Fat Burning Furnace and Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle into one review because they are both very similar in concept. The differences lay in the varying detail provided in execution.

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle

Whereas I feel that Fat Loss 4 Idiots (see my review here) is probably the best diet for most individuals, based on the factors I mention in the review, Fat Burning Furnace and Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle are the best programs for people like me. The strength of Fat Loss 4 Idiots is that you can get started with your weight loss program literally in minutes, and it's a very maintainable and effective diet, thanks to the cheat days. It is also focused solely on the dieting aspect.

Fat Burning Furnace and Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle are a bit different. Fat Burning Furnace is 140 pages, and Burn the Fat is 340 pages. The concepts are similar in each, but Fat Burning Furnace focuses 75 percent of it's pages on the workout routine, followed up with a sensible diet plan. Burn the Fat focuses on both diet and working out, but additionally provides all of the detailed supporting evidence to back its conclusions.

Fat Burning FurnaceI purchased Burn the Fat about a year ago, and found it fantastic for fact-loving dieters like me. It really changed my outlook on dieting, and brought me back to old equations. You've simply got to burn more calories than you consume, and you've got to conserve your muscle mass while doing so. Fat Burning Furnace, even at 140 pages, is like a simplified version of Burn the Fat. Both enjoyable, both effective, but my preference is for the additional information in Burn the Fat.

If you're tired of the diet hype and just want to get started on something that just plain works, you can't go wrong with either of these books. Out of the two, I'd recommend Burn the Fat first. It's better. Fat Burning Furnace has some technical inaccuracies, but what it boils down to is that the overall approach works.

Top Secret Fat Loss Secret: Consumer Review

Top Secret Fat Loss Secret is a relatively new weight loss product to enter the market, and it's quickly gained solid sales numbers in a short period of time, but I can't say that I'm convinced of its usefulness to the majority of people who purchase it.

Written by Dr. Suzanne Gudakunst, Top Secret Fat Loss Secret is a short read at 49 pages, and is focused around the concept of toxicity. The author's claim is that 'plaque' gradually builds up in our colon over the years, which is the result of harmful chemicals, pesticides, and preservatives found in large portions of the food we eat.

The toxins ultimately succeed in blocking off your body's ability to properly absorb vital nutrients, leading to 2 major reactions:

1) Your body starves no matter how much food you consume - so by not feeling full, you continue to eat, which only results in weight gain.

2) Your body thinks its starving, so your hypothalamus makes an effort to reduce your metabolism to burn food much slower in order to store fat.

The premise makes sense, and I can certainly see why it sells so well. It plays on people's fears that they have a parasite growing in their bodies, and in addition, it gives them a scapegoat. After all, according to the book, it's not your fault that you can't lose weight, it's the parasites' fault. Diet and exercise are factors, but the biggest factor is the plaque preventing you from losing weight.

It all seems too convenient to me.

How the Program Works

Because the toxins are preventing you from losing weight, the first step is to detoxify your colon. How do you do that? It ain't pretty . . . Ever heard of high colonics?

Once your colon is clear, you can begin to shed weight with dieting tips contained in this book. The tips are nothing new, but they contain solid advice on how to sensibly lose weight, but they certainly don't provide enough value to justify the price tag.

So if you subscribe to the toxicity belief, this could be a good program for you, as it describes the detoxification program along with some solid dieting advice. But if you're not interested in the detox angle, you'd be better off with a more comprehensive or easier to follow diet program.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots: An Actual Legitimate Review

There is a lot of hype surrounding Fat Loss 4 Idiots (much of it is substantiated), but reality is somewhat less favoring. The bottom line is that the greatest strengths of this program -- it's simplicity and cheat days -- are exactly what makes it both perfect and imperfect, depending on what kind of learner / dieter you are.

What I mean by that, as related to the program's key points:

Advantages of this Approach

  • This has to be the fastest, drop-dead-simple way to get started with a diet program. You can be ready to go in literally 30 minutes.
  • The diet is sustainable, as it allows you three off-diet days during every two-week period. This is huge in my opinion, as it makes the diet easy to follow for the long term

Disadvantages of this Approach

  • The "do what I say" style is not the best choice for information consumers who want to know *why* something works, not just how to do it. For those dieters, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is a much better option.

Program Hype

Fat Loss 4 Idiots is the ONLY online weight loss solution that boldly claims you can lose up to 9 pounds every 11 days. That's not 9 pounds in the first 11 days, but 9 pounds during every 11 days on diet (the schedule is 11 days on followed by 3 days off).

Realistically, this results in a bit of a yo-yo effect, but with constant downward trending of weight. That is, drop 9 pounds, gain back 3, drop 9 pounds (for a total loss of 15), gain back 3. So at the end of every 30 days, you can expect to have lost 12 pounds.

This is a pretty high figure for ongoing dieting, so I'm skeptical that the average dieter can achieve these significant drops every month, but even half of that is appealing when you get 3 full cheat days every two weeks!

Other Program Benefits

The biggest benefit in my opinion is the three off days. Three days when you can eat the foods that you crave is enormous, and makes a diet much easier to follow for the long-term. Let's face it, the long-term is when it gets difficult. Those first few months are easy as the weight rolls off. Continued losses get harder and harder.

Another benefit is the simplicity. It's easy and fast to start, and it's a low-maintenance plan because Fat Loss 4 Idiots doesn't place much importance on calorie and carb counting or portion size - instead, the program constantly encourages you to "eat short of being full."

The major difference between the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet plan and other weight loss programs is that the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet formula is specifically designed to confuse your body so it never thinks it's starving.

Don't Forget to Exercise

Fat Loss 4 Idiots does not contain any kind of exercise plan, so make sure you add a sensible workout plan to your diet. A light strength-training routine for newcomers, or high-intensity intervals for folks with an athletic base is a good move.

Conclusion

Fat Loss 4 Idiots, like any other diet, works if you work it. But Fat Loss 4 Idiots is easier to work thanks to its low amount of required maintenance, regular cheat periods, and easy plans.

Update: I've been using this diet for 8 full weeks as of today.  As with many diets, the weight flew off at first, totaling 11 pounds in the first two weeks. This loss tapered down to roughly 2 pounds per week at the 4 week mark. After 8 weeks, my total loss is 22.5 pounds.

Yeah, I'm happy with that figure.

It's not the most effective diet I've ever been on, but it has been the easiest to maintain. Knowing that a cheat day is right around the corner makes the on-diet days much easier to get through.

How fast can you lose weight without it being unhealthy?

This winter break, I am planning on making a strong effort to lose weight. For all who are wondering, the break will be 6 weeks long.

Here is what I am planning to do:
-Eat a very reasonable diet.
-Take protein supplements.
-Drink lots of water.
-Ride my bike for an hour or two a day.
-Go to the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and do some anaerobic exercise to build lean muscle.

Would this be unhealthy? I have a feeling I will lose weight rather quickly, but a friend told me that losing weight fast is almost as unhealthy as being overweight in the first place. Is my plan unreasonable?

Thoughts?

Start doing that before the break, start out slow, it will take a while for your body to get accustomed to all the changes. Starving yourself is just as bad as burning off all the calories you ate that day, just make sure you get 1200 calories a day, and ride your bike for an hour maybe, two seems a bit extreme for now, especially if you're coming out of an inactive lifestyle. Your friend is right, just don't go overboard with the exercising. If your body goes into starvation mode you could easily gain all the weight back as fast as you lost it. Good luck!

Surgical Weight Loss Via Lap Band Surgery Can Offer Impressive Results

There are a lot of weight loss methods on the market today. You can have prescribed medication that curbs your appetite and gives you a boost of energy. You can try any number of the fad diets that involve no carbohydrates or eating soup every day. But, if you have tried these methods and none are working, then you may need to look at a surgical weight loss process as the answer to your dilemma.

Surgical weight loss methods are not for everyone. You must have a real need in order to be approved for this type of weight loss program. One of the available programs out on the market is the Lap Band procedure and it has gained in popularity in recent years for a number of reasons. During the surgery, a specially trained Lap Band surgeon will place an adjustable gastric band around the upper portion of the stomach.

The adjustable gastric band is designed so that a small pouch is created. The food will enter the mouth, travel through the esophagus and be deposited in this small pouch. The gastric Lap Band is designed so that you feel fuller faster and are unable to stretch out the stomach with overeating. The success rate of this form of surgery continues to climb as more surgeons are learning the procedure. Most patients can lose over fifty percent of their pre-operative body weight. That is a phenomenal weight loss cure. The results are not as fast as those for other gastric bypass surgeries but you cannot argue with the Lap Band success rate.

So what makes this procedure preferred over the traditional bariatric surgeries? It is far less invasive. You do not have to worry about a lengthy recovery nor do you have to stay for a long period of time in the hospital. The average stay for a patient is less than forty-eight hours. This surgery is often the one preferred by insurance companies because it involves less recovery time and is less expensive than other weight loss surgeries performed in the past.

No one wants to be stuck eating cabbage or no carbohydrates for the rest of their lives in order to keep the weight off. If you have tried dieting and exercising to no avail, then it is time to consider surgical weight loss methods as a way to get rid of those extra pounds for good. Your physician can give you all the details of the procedure and refer you to a bariatric surgeon who will perform the actual surgery.

All surgery comes with a danger so its usually advisable to exhaust all other avenues first. Go for a diet plan that has a proven track record and as made it into the top 10 diet chart. You can check out the Top 10 Diets as an alternative to lap band surgery by clicking here.

Is Dropping Weight The Same As Losing Fat?

Doesn't it seem like every person you know wants to lose weight? We seem to believe we just need to drop a few (or quite a few) more pounds to get into the shape we want. But if we focus on our weight, we're fooling ourselves. Your weight isn't a good measure of your fitness, and dropping weight won't necessarily make you fitter.

Why Losing Weight Isn't the Key

Even health care professionals sometimes fail to draw a distinction between being overweight and carrying too much fat. Suppose that you and your identical twin go to the doctor for a physical. The doctor tells you both that you need to lose 20 pounds. Your conformist twin decides to concentrate on losing weight as fast as possible by going on one of the popular quick weight loss diets.

You on the other hand, know that there's a real difference between the numbers you see on the scale and how fit you are. So you decide to follow a different path. Instead of concentrating on losing weight, you start eating healthier, more nutritious meals. You also get serious about that workout program you've been saying you were going to start, and begin lifting weights and running regularly. Since you know the difference between losing weight and losing fat, you've decided to concentrate on reducing your body fat percentage, rather than freaking out over your exact weight.

After six months, the two of you go back to the doctor for another physical. They do all the usual medical stuff to you, then sit you down to talk about the results. Your twin is confident that they've finally outdone you at something, having lost even more than the 20 pounds the doctor suggested. You've only lost a few pounds, so things are looking bleak for you. However, the news the doctor gives you seems surprising. The doctor congratulates your twin on losing 20+ pounds, but tells them that the test results indicate they need to lose another 10 pounds or so. The doctor points out that you didn't lose the 20 you were supposed to, but your test results are now excellent and you don't need to lose anything more. What's up with that?

Losing Weight Isn't Nearly As Important As Losing Fat

The doctor gives you and your twin different instructions now because the numbers on the scale aren't the most important thing. Your twin's diet caused them to lose a good bit of body fat. But theylost muscle mass and water weight too, leaving their body fat percentage (the ratio of fat to lean tissue in their body) is almost unchanged. And look at them. They look skinnier than they used to, but they're still kind of flabby. They're also low on energy and generally don't look so good.

Your situation is totally different. Sure, you didn't lose the amount of weight the doctor recommended. But with all that exercise and healthy eating, you've added some muscle to your frame. And even though the number on the scale hasn't changed much, you can somehow fit into those old jeans that were too tight just a few months ago. And you don't look flabby anymore.

Now look at you. You've only lost a few pounds. But you've added some muscle to your frame and lost a good bit of body fat. Your body fat percentage has improved a lot. And you don't look flabby anymore. Plus you're full of energy.

Make Sure You Remember The Difference

I hope you now understand why just focusing on weight loss is a losing proposition. This focus is a huge part of the reason why so many people get fit. If everyone were to concentrate on getting fit and losing fat, instead of watching some number on their bathroom scale, we would all be a lot fitter. Now you know the right thing to do. Just find yourself a quality fitness program and follow the instructions. The program will cause you to start eating better and exercising properly. Soon you'll start burning off your excess body fat and getting fit.

Beat The Holiday Weight Gain Blues!

Every year the Holidays come - for many this means adding a few pounds. Sure it tastes good so you tell your self you will work it off later. Some do, some do not. What can you do to prevent those extra Holida pounds?

Portion Size

It is really easy to say but harder to do! All you have to do it watch your portions and do not overeat. You can also add in an exercise program if you are not exercising all ready. Hey get a head start on the New Year Resolutions.

Planning

Okay, so how can you keep your portions under control when everything tastes so good? That is where it can be more difficult as you know. You can make it easier by planning ahead before the Holiday meal.

Visualize

Before you go to the meal, think about what why you would not want to gain weight. Think about how you will feel if you overeat and gain weight. Plan on what you will eat and visualize the correct portions on your plate. This will help you stick with your plan when you get to the meal.

Drinks

You need to also prepare for how much you will drink. It doesn’t matter what beverage you drink, if it is not water, it will add calories. Oh and by the way the sugar free beverages are not any healthier.

Appetizers

How about appetizers? This is a deadly weapon that can shatter your plan. Plan ahead and take into account the drinks, meal and dessert, now decide how many appetizers you will have. Holiday meals are a total package and you need to cover all your bases.

Dessert

How about dessert? The best thing you could do would be to skip it. But that will be so hard to do for many of you. If you are one of those people that prefer savory things then you will have an advantage here. If you just can not say no then ask for a small piece. Should you be given more then a small piece of dessert you do not have to eat all of it. It is okay to leave the rest.

Put all this together and plan ahead before those Holiday meals so you can avoid the weight gain blues!

Now if you should happen to put on a few pounds in spite of your best efforts then take advantage of a weight loss method called calorie shifting to help you quickly lose those extra pounds. Discover how a calorie shifting diet can help you lose the Holiday pounds!
